REVIEWS: KOREAN AMERICAN WITCHES SOCIETY

“I read KAWS and thought it was great! A quirky coming-of-age story about the only Koreans in their rural Appalachian middle school, KAWS had great characters and heartfelt emotions. I can see why Jennifer just signed with Industry!” – David H. Steinberg, Executive Producer/Showrunner NO GOOD NICK (Netflix) and SIMPSONS writer

“This is a sweet story about a 13-year-old Korean American girl that makes a new Korean friend who has just moved to town. There are a lot of recognizable early teenage problems of trying to fit in as the characters’ friendship grows, while also dealing with deeper family problems. Janie, with her father sick with cancer and her mother adopting overbearing Christian values and Minhee wanting to return her grandmother to Korea and get away from her distant father and flirtatious mother. The pacing is really strong, the characters are unique and the dialogue fits the story very well. The coming-of-age aspects are reminiscent of shows like PEN15 or even STRANGER THINGS, but this story is more grounded while still having potentially fantastic elements… A sweet and nostalgic storyline.” – BLUE CAT

NEWSERS  (one-hour, YA dramedy)

Two eager high school journalists investigate a federal conspiracy within their school district involving the betrayal of a beloved principal — while facing turbulent home lives as the children of immigrants. (*Note: half-hour version available)

REVIEW: NEWSERS has everything one could want in a teen drama—distinctive characters, hilarious wit, a fierce political spirit, and a big heart. From the moment Julian and Mimi are introduced with their adorably nerdy “2020 EIC” hand signals, it is true love. They think and talk like contemporary high schoolers, and their journalistic ambitions create a great narrative motor for the plot.” –  BLUE CAT

ACCOLADES: Finalist, ScreenCraft Fellowship (2019); Finalist, Stowe Story Labs Fellowship (2019); Semifinalist, Blue Cat (2019); Semifinalist, ScreenCraft’TV Pilot Launch (2018); Quarterfinalist, Page International (2019); Semifinalist, WeScreenplay Diverse Voices (2018).

NEWSERS, the half-hour version, was a Final Draft Big Break quarterfinalist (2020).

“A striking project, showing originality at every level. The writer takes advantage of the medium, providing a reality that has a high level of energy. The characters are likable while also being eccentric and distinct.” – ISA Grand Prize Winner, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
